Fred Herzog. Photographer. German. Canada.

Fred Herzog was born in Germany, emigrating to Canada in 1952. He has been active in Vancouver's art scene for more than forty years. He worked as a medical photographer from 1957 to 1990, as associate director of the UBC Department of Biomedical Communication, and also taught at Simon Fraser University. During that time he participated in group exhibitions at the National Gallery of Canada, Presentation House Gallery, Vancouver Art Gallery and UBC Fine Arts Gallery. His passion for photography resulted in a large body of work depicting Vancouver during the postwar era, at a time when capitalism and consumer culture was burgeoning.

Fred’s work was produced on Kodachrome, a colour slide film that was difficult to work with in a spontaneous fashion. His use of colour was unusual in the 1950s and 60s, a time when art photography was almost exclusively associated with black and white imagery.

Crap T-Shirt. Printed on American Apparel T's.
OVER 60% OF CANADIANS DID NOT VOTE FOR HARPER IN THE 2011 ELECTION! How crappy is that?
In January 2000, the Reform and the Progressive Conservative parties got together to form a new party, the Canadian Conservative Reform Alliance. But when the word party was added, the movement acquired an unfortunate acronym:CCRAP. Thus, the crappiest political party in Canada was born. After numerous messy name changes and mergers they became the Conservative Party of Canada. We think they had the name right the first time. -blasfamy.com

Better This World. Documentary. 2011. US.

Directed by Kelly Duane and Katie Galloway,
David McKay and Bradley Crowder two boyhood friends known as the "Texas Two" - fall under the sway of an older charismatic 'revolutionary'. At the volatile 2008 Republican Convention the boys cross a line that radically changes their lives. The result: eight homemade bombs, multiple domestic terrorism charges and a high stakes entrapment defense hinging on the actions of a controversial FBI informant. BETTER THIS WORLD goes to the heart of the War on Terror and its impact on civil liberties and political dissent in post-9/11 America.
