WE ARE ALL RADIOACTIVE is a film project created by TokyoMango blogger Lisa Katayama and TED film director Jason Wishnow. It's about surfers rebuilding northern Japan after the earthquake and tsunami on 3.11.2011. In the summer of 2011, a few months after the quake, the crew went to Japan to shoot interviews with locals, anti-nuclear activists, and global experts on radiation. They also gave four video cameras to the locals so they can film their experience through their own lens while we're not there. Looks good.

Deus is an epic powerhouse brand producing all kinds of goodness when it comes to custom bicycles of all kinds, and surfboards. While headquarters are in Sydney, they've got outposts in New Zealand, Bali Indo, and Venice California... where it matters. They also do proper coffee and food service at their 'bike-museum like' shops. Aussies Dare Jennings, founder/past owner of Mambo clothing, and Action Motorcycles’ Rod Hunwick are the creators of Deus ex Machina. They ditched corporate cloning and decided to celebrate individuality, while paying homage to ‘the god in the machine’ (translation of the greek-inspired co. name). The dudes were always bike-enthusiasts who decided to set up shop after visiting Japan and being inspired by Japanese bike culture.

Shotwell: Alex Klein. From Say Mayday.

Alex Klein is the man behind the epic doc God Went Surfing with the Devil (see previous posts here and here). He shot the doc on a 2 month trip to Israel and Gaza, where he and three of his friends (Edward Chase, Bryan Derballa, and Danilo Parra) explored surfing as means of peacemaking in the region. Through beautiful art like this, I hope peace will be achieved in the Middle East one day soon...

Sliding Liberia was made by Stanford students/filmmakers Britton Caillouette and Nicholai Lidow... this surf film/social documentary follows Patagonia surfers Dan Malloy, Crystal Thornburg, and Chris Del Moro to Liberia in search of the perfect waves... as they travel through the West African country, devastated by decades of brutal civil war, they record the stories of people they meet along the way. Beautifully done... incredible cinematography by Dave Homcy.
